IPAS Showcases World-Leading Photonics at ATSE Showcase

IPAS was proud to participate in the recent Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE) New Fellows Showcase, joining fellow innovators from across the University of Adelaide. The event celebrated South Australia’s leading scientists and engineers, featuring a wide array of cutting-edge technology demonstrations and the collaborative spirit driving scientific discovery.

Our Director, Prof Mark Hutchinson, served as MC for the evening, highlighting the achievements of ATSE’s new Fellows and Award winners. From IPAS, several teams presented their pioneering research:

  • Centre of Light for Life – Dr Ralf Mouthaan and Ané Kritzinger demonstrated Raman spectroscopy imaging through sealed containers, while Dr Darren Chow and the Reproductive Success team showcased embryo health sensing technologies.

  • Precision Measurement Group – Dr Sarah Scholten and Dr Ashby Hilton presented quantum clocks, highlighting Australia’s growing capabilities in sovereign precision measurement.

  • Photonics Materials Team – Dr Ka Wu and Dr Ori Henderson-Sapir displayed advances in ZBLAN optical fibres and high-power laser technologies.

The showcase also featured a striking artwork by local glass artist Karen Cunningham, inspired by ZBLAN technology, celebrating the intersection of science and art.

The evening was a unique opportunity for IPAS to connect with South Australia’s research community, including Australia’s Former Chief Scientist, Dr Cathy Foley AO, and to share the impact of photonics innovations shaping Australia’s scientific future.
